Recycle Right with WM
Annually, more than 25 million Americans relocate to a new community. When moving to the Colorado Springs area, residents aren’t locked into using an appointed hauler to service their trash and recycling. Instead, residents are given the opportunity to shop and choose a hauler.
If you choose WM of Colorado after visiting wm.com, you will get an experienced, local team committed to delivering the safest, most-reliable service to the community. One in three members of our local hauling team are military veterans.
In addition to offering recycling collection to benefit the environment, WM also operates a growing fleet of cleaner-burning CNG (compressed natural gas) trucks that emit nearly zero emissions and run quieter in your neighborhood. Customers can login at wm.com day or night to access their account to confirm a collection schedule, pay a bill, get automated service alerts and more.
WM is committed to helping keep the community clean and working for a more sustainable tomorrow. To this end, WM offers the following tips for a greener move and recycling right during your transition into the community:
Use and Reuse Cardboard Boxes
An average move utilized 60 or more boxes and reams of packaging materials. Utilizing boxes made from recycled materials is a good start. Reusing boxes whenever feasible is just smart.
Choose Greener Packaging
Be mindful to use recyclable paper packaging materials such as newspaper and kraft paper, and biodegradable peanuts because they are both greener options than plastic bubble wrap and plastic film.
Recycle Boxes
When the move is done, if you don’t want to save your boxes, recycle them. To do so properly, be sure to remove all packaging before breaking down every box until each is flat. If necessary, fold or cut the material so it will fit in the recycling cart. Place flattened cardboard inside your cart so that the lid closes completely. Open cart lids can cause materials to fall out during servicing and create litter and safety hazards.
Learn to Recycle Right
The rules for proper recycling are simple, so no need to overthink them. Only recycle clean cardboard, paper, metal food and beverage cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastics shaped like bottles, jugs, jars, and tubs. If an item isn’t on this list, it doesn’t belong in the recycling bin so place it in your trash.
Never bag-up recyclables, place them loosely and directly inside carts. Plastic bags and plastic film are not accepted in curbside recycling (return to a retailer for separate recycling). Materials left alongside a cart will not be collected because collection trucks are automated. Save the materials for your next service date to maximize your environmental impact. Recycling Right Makes a Difference
When you recycle your clean cardboard, paper, cans, bottles, jugs and jars, you offset the use of raw materials, energy and water in the production of new consumer products. An aluminum can recycled today may be back on the shelf as a new can in 60 days! Plastic bottles can be turned into clothing, shoes and roofing material. Mixed paper can become napkins or tissues. Cardboard can be recycled into new boxes. When you recycle you make a big difference!
